Poem
Who Am I?
I am someone’s daughter, sister, aunt, granddaughter, mother, and wife.
I am someone who cries when I am happy.
I am someone who loves Christmas but enjoys giving presents more than getting them.
I am someone who always gives something to the stranger on the side of the road holding a sign that reads “Will work for food”.
I am someone who volunteers at a local food bank.
I am someone who has taught your children Sunday school.
I am someone who has passed you in the halls at our children’s school functions.
I am someone who has sat a pew behind you during church.
I am someone who has been married for 23 years and has two children.
I am someone who does not drink or do drugs.
I am someone who has stood behind you in line at the grocery store.
I am someone who has hosted a dinner for people who are hungry.
I am someone who goes to work and pretends nothing is wrong.
I am someone who gets down on my knees and prays to God.
I am someone whose faith has been tested.
I am someone who used to be your neighbor.
I am someone.
I could be anyone.
I could be you.
I am homeless.
“No one can really pull you up very high – you lose your grip on the rope. But on your own two feet, you can climb mountains.”
– Louis Brandeis
