• To Register your Kroger Plus Card for their Community Rewards Program Click the logo below. You MUST register an online account FOR FREE with Kroger.com FIRST. After receiving their confirmation e-mail click the link provided to VERIFY your registration. After you are verified please read below for Community Rewards registration instructions.

• If you are already a registered online user (or just registered) with Kroger.com then please click the logo above and sign into their site, if you are not already signed in. (The link for the sign in is near the right hand side of your screen right next to the Kroger Plus Card image, on the Kroger website).

• After signing in, click the MY ACCOUNT link located below your welcome message (Welcome Back, first name). Now scroll down to bottom of the page and click the words COMMUNITY REWARDS. A new page will open asking you to find your organization, or there may be an organization already listed. If there is one listed, click the edit link under the listing.

• The new page will ask you to FIND YOUR ORGANIZATION. In the box below type the following number with NO SPACES 80248 and then click SEARCH one time. A listing should appear below this box saying:

• Click the radio styled button next to the name, and then click Save Changes below that. You are now done, we greatly appreciate your support. About Homelessness

• The face of homelessness is changing. Veterans were once the highest percentage of homeless citizens just a few short years ago, now they make up a small portion, 22%, of the nations homeless population. (nchv.org) You may ask, who are the other 78%? Take a look around, it could one day be your neighbor, your brother, sister, cousin, parents, friends, or even yourself. When poverty strikes it does not discriminate any race, creed, religion, or financial status, nor will it ever.

 

• 70% of the homeless people in America are CHILDREN. According to HUD (Department of Housing and Urban Development), due to foreclosures and job loss, the number of families with children who have lost domestic autonomy is up 30% since 2007 and now those families are on the streets or in homeless shelters. As the economy gets worse and foreclosures continue to grow, unfortunately, so does homelessness. It can effect ANYONE. As of May 11, 2010 there were 3,420 homeless people in Toledo alone, an increase of over 2500 people since 2008 (Mildred Bayer).

 

• Loss of employment, divorce, long-term illness, domestic violence, substance abuse, and many other factors make it difficult, if not impossible, for people to pay their rent or mortgage payments. This in turn causes homeless rates to go up nationwide. The current recession and other factors that contribute to homelessness include; lack of affordable housing, lack of preventative services that would keep people in their homes, inadequate treatment programs for those suffering from substance abuse and mental illness, among many, many others. There are homeless people right here in Toledo that work 1 or 2 full time jobs and still cannot afford a roof over their head, especially if they have children and the expenses that come with being a parent.

 

• One common myth regarding homeless people is that they have been living on the streets forever. The truth is that a large percentage of homeless people are without a roof only temporarily. Forty percent will actually find a home again in six months or less. Another common myth is that homeless people are dangerous, while in fact statistics show that most are victims of crime rather than perpetrators. (ehow.com)

 

• On June 22, 2010, the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness (USICH) unveiled the nation's first-ever comprehensive federal strategic plan to prevent and end homelessness. Opening Doors: The Federal Strategic Plan to Prevent and End Homelessness serves as a roadmap for joint action by the 19 USICH member agencies. The Plan is focused on four key goals: 1. Finish the job of ending chronic homelessness in five years *People who are considered chronically homeless move from shelter to shelter and live most of their days and nights on the streets* 2. Prevent and end homelessness among Veterans in five years 3.Prevent and end homelessness for families, youth, and children in ten years 4. Set a path to ending all types of homelessness. Due to the abundance of items so graciously being donated we are requesting that ALL donations MUST be scheduled first before being brought to our family shelter. PLEASE call us at 419-242-5505 before bringing donations to FAMILY HOUSE as our current needs have changed.
